The heart team at Princeton Baptist Medical Center recently completed their 250th WATCHMAN™ procedure. The only FDA-approved implant proven to reduce stroke risk in people with atrial fibrillation not caused by a heart valve problem (also referred to as non-valvular AFib), the WATCHMAN offers an alternative to the lifelong use of warfarin. The implant, which is produced by Boston Scientific, is about the size of a quarter and made from light, compact materials. It fits into the left atrial appendage and is designed to permanently close it off and keep those blood clots from escaping.
