Dr. H. Cecil Coghlan Receives John Burrett Award

In February, the CVA Medical Education Foundation, a non-profit entity formed by Cardiovascular Associates, held the fourth annual Cardiovascular Update Conference at the Cahaba Grand Conference Center. The continuing medical education meeting is designed to provide physicians and other healthcare staff an overview of timely and

important developments in the care of patients with cardiovascular disease.

Andrew Miller, MD, the cardiologist who headed the meeting, found the event to be a success. “We covered a broad range of cutting edge and bread and butter topics from transcutaneous aortic valve implantation and three-dimensional echocardiography to appropriate lipid therapy and the importance of prediabetes,” Miller said.

“We were especially happy to present this year's John Burrett Award, named after the founder of CardioVascular Associates and the first cardiologist in the state of Alabama, to Dr. H. Cecil Coghlan.”

Altogether, the conference drew over 200 people and provided 6 category 1 CME hours to attendees.  This annual event will continue during Heart Month, with the next conference planned for February 4, 2012. For more information, visit www.cvupdate.org.
