Match Day, when graduating seniors at medical schools across the country simultaneously find out where they will be doing their residency training and in what field, was held in mid-March this year, with more than 16,000 U.S. medical school seniors participating.

"The 2007 class is well represented in the primary care fields and in surgery, continuing strong trends we have experienced over recent years," said H. Hughes Evans, MD, PhD, associate dean for students.

Of the 2007 graduates, 40 percent will enter residencies in one of the primary care fields of internal medicine, family practice, pediatrics, or obstetrics/gynecology with 23 percent pursuing training in surgery, while the remainder serves in other specialties.

Nearly 75 percent of the UAB School of Medicine graduating class matched residency programs in the southeast, with 43 percent of the graduates remaining in Alabama. 97 percent of UAB's graduates matched to a residency position, beating the national average of 93.4. The following UAB students will be doing Alabama residencies.
