Two physicians in the UAB Department of Ophthalmology have received the American Academy of Ophthalmology's (AAO) Achievement Award for 2006. Russell W. Read, MD, and John O. Mason III, MD, associate professors of ophthalmology, were honored at the academy's annual meeting in Las Vegas last month. AAO presented its achievement award to more than 100 eye doctors worldwide for their contributions to the profession through educating others, as well as serving in leadership roles in the academy. Read also received a certificate from AAO recently in recognition of his outstanding service to the profession of ophthalmology for his work in the development of a comprehensive database of ophthalmic knowledge for use by the Academy in maintaining board certification for practicing ophthalmologists.
