For the eighth year, Hospitals & Health Networks has named the 100 Most Wired Hospitals and Health Systems in their July issue. Hospitals were asked to report on how they use information technology to address five key areas: safety and quality, customer service, business processes, workforce, and public health and safety. The results are the basis of several awards including "Most Wired," which are the 100 organizations that scored the highest. The "Most Improved" designation is for the 25 organizations not appearing on the main list but whose scores improved the most from 2004 to 2005. The results were based on the 541 completed surveys representing 1,217 U.S. hospitals (roughly 21 percent of the nation's total hospitals). The 2006 survey was made possible through a partnership among Accenture, AHA, CHIME, H&HN and McKesson.
