At its recent annual meeting, the Alabama Hospital Association (AlaHA) recognized several Birmingham-area hospital leaders. The association's highest award, the Gold Medal of Excellence, was given to the late Dan Eagar, former CEO of UAB Medical West. Bob Chapman, CEO of Eastern Health System, was awarded the association's Distinguished Service Award; and Garry Gause, CEO of Brookwood Medical Center was elected to serve on the board of directors of the association. Dan Eagar served as administrator of UAB Medical West, formerly Bessemer Carraway Medical Center, until his death in 2004. Bob Chapman has served on the AlaHA board of trustees and served in every elected office, including that of chairman. Mr. Chapman has worked in hospital and health services management for more than 31 years Garry Gause has led Brookwood Medical Center as its chief executive officer since 2003.
