Kathlyn Powell, DMD, MD has joined Children's of Alabama as the state's first dedicated pediatric oral surgeon.
Powell, who also serves as an assistant professor in the UAB School of Dentistry Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, will see patients at Children's for the management of impacted teeth, facial trauma, oral lesions, wisdom teeth, sleep apnea, bone grafting, dental implants, cysts or tumors, dental extractions, management of facial asymmetries or deformities and TMJ. She will also work with the Cleft and Craniofacial Center and the Aerodigestive Program.
Powell graduated from Auburn University with a bachelor's degree in biomedical sciences. She received her doctor of dental medicine degree in 2009 and her doctor of medicine degree in 2012, both from UAB. She completed a residency in oral and maxillofacial surgery residency as well as a fellowship in pediatric oral and maxillofacial surgery, also both at UAB. She is a member of the American Dental Association, American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Alabama Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Alabama Dental Association and Birmingham District Dental Society.
